As the founder of the Mental and Environmental Development Initiative for Children (MEDIC), Doyinsola Ogunye has redefined grassroots engagement, using her platform to instill environmental and social values in the Nigerian child. Born and raised in Lagos, Ogunye’s formative years in Old Ikoyi were steeped in nature, fostering her love for plants, animals, and the ocean. This connection to the environment became the foundation of her life’s work. Witnessing stark environmental degradation after a family move ignited her resolve to create change. While pursuing her degree in Law at the University of Lagos, she began laying the groundwork for initiatives that would later transform countless lives and ecosystems.
Her journey began with the Kids Clean Club in 2009 and grew into impactful ventures such as the Kids Beach Garden, a sea turtle sanctuary, and a tire playground established during her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). These projects reflect her dedication to teaching children about sustainability and climate action. Ogunye’s work has expanded to include a Tree Adoption Programme, a RESWAYE Recycling Village, and the innovative Free Food Friday, a partnership initiative addressing food insecurity while promoting eco-conscious habits.
Under her leadership, MEDIC has partnered with global organizations like Coca-Cola, TotalEnergies, and DHL to execute large-scale beach cleanups and educational campaigns. These partnerships have not only fostered environmental stewardship but also created job opportunities, demonstrating the potential of a circular economy. Ogunye’s emphasis on blending practical education with environmental activism has inspired children to become agents of change, leading initiatives in their neighborhoods and schools.
Ogunye’s entrepreneurial spirit shines through her company, Shoreline Euphoria Limited, which focuses on hospitality, tourism, events management, and eco-safety. Her ability to bridge corporate ventures with environmental advocacy underscores her multifaceted impact on society. Recognized as a Goalkeeper by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and a fellow of the Royal African Young Leadership Forum, she is celebrated for her unwavering commitment to sustainable development. Ogunye believes in nurturing a generation of leaders equipped to tackle the challenges of climate change and global warming. She advocates for bridging socioeconomic divides, organizing collaborative activities between children from underprivileged communities and private schools to foster shared learning and inclusivity.
