Humphrey Nabimanya: Pioneering Youth Advocacy and Transformative Change in Uganda

Humphrey Nabimanya is redefining youth advocacy and social transformation in Uganda. As the founder and CEO of Reach A Hand Uganda (RAHU), he leads a youth-focused non-profit that has been at the forefront of tackling critical issues such as sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), HIV/AIDS, and teenage pregnancy. Born in the vibrant village of Katereza in Rwampara district, his journey to social impact began in 2011 during his studies in Community Psychology at Makerere University.

RAHU has evolved into a movement of change agents, impacting vulnerable communities through innovative campaigns, educational programs, and youth-led initiatives. Humphrey’s vision of empowering young people with the tools to make informed life choices has directly reached over a million youth in schools and communities, with expanded awareness on SRHR and strengthened access to essential services.

A multifaceted changemaker, Humphrey is also an accomplished filmmaker, shedding light on pressing societal issues through storytelling. His executive production credits include Kyaddala (It’s Real), a TV series addressing real-life youth challenges; When You Become Me, a Cannes-nominated film highlighting disability rights; and Sabotage, a bold exploration of sexual violence and reproductive health issues in Uganda.

Humphrey’s influence extends to the creative industry through initiatives like the Ikon Awards, which celebrate excellence in Uganda’s film and television sector, and the Sauti Plus Media Hub, a behavioral change agency leveraging creativity to drive impact. His recognition as one of Africa’s 100 most influential young Africans in 2018 and a participant in the Young African Leaders Initiative in 2024 underscores his commitment to creating meaningful change.

Fueling his mission is a deeply personal connection to the challenges he addresses. Raised by HIV-positive guardians, Humphrey witnessed the stigma surrounding the disease, which inspired his drive to educate and empower young people about HIV, positive living, and self-advocacy.
