Jacob Kiplimo Breaks Half-Marathon World Record with a Historic Performance in Barcelona

Ugandan long-distance runner Jacob Kiplimo has set a new benchmark in the world of road racing, shattering the half-marathon world record at the Barcelona Half Marathon on Sunday. Clocking an astonishing 56 minutes and 41 seconds, Kiplimo sliced 49 seconds off the previous record set by Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha in October, marking the greatest single improvement in men’s half-marathon history.

From the moment the race began, Kiplimo displayed exceptional control and endurance, maintaining a rapid pace of 2:41 per kilometer. Running under near-perfect conditions – a cool 13°C temperature with no wind – he capitalized on the ideal setting to execute a flawless race strategy. Initially pacing with the leading pack at 2:45 per kilometer, he surged ahead by the third kilometer, accelerating toward a record-breaking finish.

Kiplimo’s dominance extended beyond the 21.1-kilometer mark, as he also set a new world best for 15km, crossing the split at 40:07. His record-breaking run included stunning splits of 13:26 for 5km and 26:53 for 10km, a testament to his endurance and speed.

This latest achievement cements Kiplimo’s place as one of the greatest long-distance runners of his generation. With his marathon debut set for April 27 in London, the world now eagerly anticipates his next challenge on the roads, where he aims to further redefine the limits of distance running.
