Ahmed Samir Saleh, born in 1974, is an accomplished Egyptian politician and industrial leader, currently serving as the Minister of Industry and Trade. His journey from the engineering field to the heart of Egypt’s economic and industrial policies has been marked by notable achievements in both the private sector and public service. Saleh earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cairo University in 1996. After graduating, he entered the business world, joining his family’s enterprise, Canal Plastic Pipes and Fitting Company, as Deputy Manager in 2000. This experience laid the foundation for his deep understanding of Egypt’s industrial landscape and positioned him for future leadership roles in the business community.
In 2015, Saleh’s political career began to take shape when he was elected as a Member of Parliament representing the Mostaqbal Watan (Nation’s Future) Party. By January 2016, he had become the head of the House of Representatives’ Industrial Committee. His tenure here lasted until 2017, when he transitioned to lead the Economic Committee, following the appointment of his predecessor, Ali El-Moselhi, as Minister of Supply. Saleh held this influential post until 2022. During his time in parliament, Saleh was instrumental in pushing through key legislative reforms that impacted Egypt’s economic and industrial sectors. Among the significant laws he helped pass were: Investment Law Amendments, Law Regulating Non-Cash Payment Methods, The Central Bank and Banking Sector Law No. 194 of 2020, Consumer Finance Law and Amendments to the Competition Protection Law. These reforms were critical to improving Egypt’s investment climate and modernizing its financial and industrial regulations, with the ultimate goal of fostering sustainable economic growth.
In 2022, Ahmed Samir Saleh was appointed as Egypt’s Minister of Industry and Trade, a role in which he has continued to champion industrial development and economic reform. His expertise in engineering and extensive experience in both business and politics have enabled him to navigate the complexities of Egypt’s industrial landscape and trade relations. Saleh’s influence extends beyond Egypt’s borders. He currently serves as the President of both the Egyptian-Belarusian and Egyptian-Chilean Parliamentary Friendship Associations. These positions underscore his commitment to fostering international cooperation and strengthening Egypt’s economic ties with other nations.
Additionally, Saleh has been actively involved in the business community as Vice President of the 6 October City Investors Association since 2015, demonstrating his ongoing dedication to promoting industrial investment and economic development within Egypt.
