Honourable Aden Duale, EGH, MP is currently serving as the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Defence. Hon. Duale’s academic background is as impressive as his political career. He holds a Bachelor of Education Degree from Moi University and a Master of Business Administration from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. His educational foundation has undoubtedly contributed to his strategic approach in governance and policy formulation. A founding member of several prominent political parties, including the Orange Democratic Movement, the United Republican Party, the Jubilee Party, and the United Democratic Alliance.
Hon. Duale’s political journey began in 2007 when he was first elected to the Kenyan Parliament. Since then, he has been a consistent presence, winning re-election in 2013, 2017, and 2022. Representing Garissa Township Constituency, his influence extends beyond his constituency through his active participation in the National Assembly. In the 10th Parliament, he served as the Member of Parliament for Dujis Constituency, where he demonstrated his dedication to public service by taking on the role of Assistant Minister for Livestock in the Coalition Government. His responsibilities extended to being a member of the Departmental Committee on Energy and Communication, reflecting his versatility and commitment to addressing a broad spectrum of national issues.
One of Hon. Duale’s most notable roles was serving as the Leader of the Majority Party in the National Assembly during the 11th and 12th Parliaments. His tenure, which spanned eight years until July 2020, was a period of significant legislative productivity. As the Leader of the Majority Party, he sponsored 101 Government Bills in the 11th Parliament, showcasing his legislative acumen and commitment to advancing Kenya’s legislative agenda.
As the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Defence, Hon. Duale’s responsibilities are both extensive and critical. He is tasked with policy formulation and implementation, ensuring that the Ministry effectively operationalizes its mandate. His role involves presenting and articulating Cabinet memoranda, sessional papers, and other policy issues emanating from the Ministry, providing strategic direction and advice to the President on defence matters. Hon. Duale also serves as the chairperson of the Defence Council, the highest organ that manages defence affairs, and is the Chair of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF). His leadership in these capacities underscores his commitment to national security and regional stability.
