In commemoration of the Black History Month 2022, the African Community in Surrey and Sussex held a ‘Black Book Launch’ on 12th October 2022 at Horley Library.
The event was the first of its kind and the first on the activities scheduled for the commemoration of this year’s Black History Month. The association also plans to host a training workshop and a get together on the 29th of October 2022.
The event had in attendance authors and celebrities who read texts from notable authors and books.
Among the authors present were Hibo Wandere who read from her book ‘Cut’ and Princess Ronke Ademiluyi who read from ‘Unspoken’- A Chronicle of Women Kings,
Dr Gbenga Oduntan from University of Kent discussed International Law & Boundary Disputes in Africa, Peter Olorunisomo spoke on A snake in the King’s palace, Pastor Irene Ferry on World within Worlds, Cllr Ade Aminu-Nigerian on British Politicians in UK and Hon Ronke Soyombo on Teaching & Learning Literacy.
It was such an insightful and fascinating experience as prolific authors shared generously their time and of course their wealth of knowledge with the audience. The event also afforded the attendees the privilege socialising with people from different sphere of life.
