Born on August 2, 1967, in Lagos, Nigeria, Dr. Olufolake Abdulrazaq‘s journey reflects a remarkable fusion of academic brilliance, professional achievement, and a deep-seated commitment to uplifting communities.
Dr. Abdulrazaq’s educational journey began with a global perspective, completing her early education across the United States and Nigeria. By 1988, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Lagos, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication in 1990 and a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy in 1991. Her academic accolades were crowned in 2020 with an Honorary Doctorate in Gender Development from the Geofidel Institute for Leadership and Management, London, underscoring her lifelong dedication to empowering women.
Launching her career in 1993 at the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdulrazaq quickly established herself as a dynamic and capable diplomat. She held critical roles within Nigeria and internationally, representing the nation at prestigious institutions like the Nigerian High Commission in London and Pretoria. Over the years, her strategic acumen and leadership abilities propelled her into pivotal positions, including Assistant Director at the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Minister/Head of Consular Education and Welfare Section in London. Her portfolio boasts participation in high-level global forums such as the International Maritime Organization Council, Commonwealth Board of Governors Meetings, and the United Nations General Assembly.
As the First Lady of Kwara State, Dr. Abdulrazaq harnesses her position to champion socioeconomic development. She founded the Ajike People Support Centre, a platform dedicated to addressing critical issues such as healthcare, education, poverty alleviation, and gender equality. Under her leadership, the Centre has delivered vocational training to thousands and facilitated health outreach programs, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of countless individuals. In her capacity as Chairperson of the Nigeria Governors’ Wives Forum, she collaborates with other First Ladies to tackle national challenges, including increasing school enrollment, empowering women and youth, combating gender-based violence, and promoting female leadership.
Dr. Abdulrazaq’s passion for youth development extends to her roles as National Vice President of the Nigeria Baseball and Softball Association and President of District 03 Nigeria Little League. Her commitment to public health is evident in her role as a TB Champion and her contributions to the Kwara State Health Committee. Holding traditional titles such as Yeye Aare Soludero of Offa and Erelu of Ilado and Inagbe Islands, she bridges the gap between modern leadership and cultural heritage.
