Olatunji Olaleye Makes History as First Black Rotary District Governor in the UK

Nigerian-born Olatunji Olaleye has been appointed District Governor of Rotary in the United Kingdom, becoming the first Black person to hold the prestigious office in the organisation’s history across the region.

A seasoned Clinical Practitioner with a dual professional grounding in Law, his multidisciplinary expertise has shaped his decades-long career in health and advocacy. His particular focus on medicolegal issues and cross-border infertility treatment has made him a thought leader in navigating complex ethical and regulatory terrain in modern medicine.

Now, he steps into a new chapter of service, one built not just on professional achievement but on representation and Rotary values of integrity and community impact. His appointment resonates across multiple spheres: healthcare, law, civic leadership, and Black British history.

Olatunji’s district includes several Rotary clubs across the UK, and as Governor, Olaleye will oversee the coordination of community service projects, leadership development, and Rotary’s international humanitarian work. His leadership comes at a time when diversity, equity, and inclusion are high on the agenda of global organisations.

Outside his Rotary commitments, Olaleye is known for his scholarly interest in reproductive ethics, having published research and presented across academic platforms. He continues to advocate for regulatory improvements in transnational fertility access, particularly concerning patients from Africa and the Global South seeking advanced treatments abroad.
