Ricardo (26) and Nicolas (24) Lognath, brothers and co-founders of Omninela Medical, are revolutionizing home care with their innovative range of medical devices. Based in South Africa, Omninela Medical is an e-commerce healthcare company that has quickly become a beacon of accessibility and patient-centric service. The Lognath brothers founded Omninela Medical at the ages of 24 and 22, respectively, while still pursuing engineering degrees at the Durban University of Technology (DUT). Their journey into entrepreneurship began when Ricardo came across an article in 2017 highlighting that South Africa’s private healthcare sector serves only 16% of the population. This stark reality inspired them to create a solution that would make healthcare more accessible to the majority.
Despite their full-time studies, Ricardo balanced working as a junior mechanical engineer and Nicolas as a junior civil engineer to self-fund their venture. Their approach was methodical, involving extensive research into the healthcare industry, testing solutions, and developing a proof of concept over two years. Omninela Medical was officially founded in 2017. The company provides a wide range of medical devices nationwide, supporting consumers, patients, doctors, and health institutions. Their product lineup includes blood pressure monitors, ECGs, pulse oximeters, nebulizers, hearing amplifiers, body thermometers, and electrostimulation devices. In a market crowded with multinational corporations, Omninela has distinguished itself as a patient-centric destination for medical devices in Africa.
In February 2020, Omninela launched its online store, Omninela.co.za, which rapidly gained popularity. The platform now boasts over 110,000 users and has delivered products to more than 1,000 locations across South Africa. All Omninela products are registered with the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) and have also gained regulatory approval in Europe, North America, South America, Africa, Oceania, and Asia. The Lognath brothers are committed to making healthcare accessible to previously underserved areas. Their mission is to provide self-monitoring products that enable individuals to manage their health from the comfort of their homes, thereby improving overall healthcare accessibility in South Africa and across the African continent.
Ricardo and Nicolas Lognath’s journey from engineering students to healthcare innovators highlights their vision, dedication, and commitment to making a positive impact. As Omninela Medical continues to grow, the brothers remain focused on their goal of transforming home healthcare and making it accessible to all.
