Yesterday, the world dimmed ever so slightly with the passing of Dr. Doyinsola Abiola — a legendary journalist, principled leader, and fearless trailblazer. But even in death, her light remains. It burns bright in the pages of Nigerian history, in the hearts of those she mentored, and in the legacy of media excellence she helped shape.

Dr. Abiola was not simply a woman of firsts — she was a woman of substance, conviction, and vision. As the first female Editor-in-Chief of a national newspaper in Nigeria, she didn’t just make history; she rewrote it. She stood tall in rooms where women were not expected, nor welcomed — and left the door wide open for generations to follow.

Her time at the helm of National Concord was more than editorial stewardship — it was a moral compass for the nation. She was a truth-teller in times of turmoil. An unflinching voice in an era where silence was currency. She taught us that journalism was not just about headlines, but about honour.
Dr. Abiola was also the beloved wife of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election and a towering symbol of Nigeria’s democratic struggle. Together, they were a formidable pair — bound by love, courage, and an unwavering commitment to justice and national progress.
But beyond the bylines and boardrooms, Doyinsola Abiola was a nurturer of greatness. A mother, mentor, and matriarch — to her family, to her colleagues, and to countless aspiring media professionals across the continent. Her grace was her strength. Her humility, her crown.

At Bold & Beautiful International Magazine, we celebrate Black excellence in all its forms — and few embodied that ideal more wholly than Dr. Abiola. She was bold. She was brilliant. She was beautiful — in purpose, in poise, in principle.
As we bid her farewell, we hold fast to her legacy. A legacy of integrity. Of intellect. Of indelible impact.
Rest well, Trailblazer. The world is better because you lived. The future is brighter because you led.
