Erin Jackson’s journey in the world of speed skating is a testament to dedication, perseverance, and the pursuit of excellence. Introduced to inline skating at the age of 10 in 2002, Erin’s passion for the sport ignited early on, laying the foundation for her remarkable athletic career. However, it wasn’t until 2017 that she ventured into the realm of ice speed skating, initially dabbling in it between February and March before committing full-time in September of the same year. This transition marked a pivotal moment in Erin’s athletic trajectory, opening doors to unprecedented achievements and opportunities.
Inspired by the trailblazers who successfully made the leap from inline to ice skating, Erin embarked on her ice speed skating journey with determination and ambition. Motivated by the prospect of continuous improvement and the pursuit of higher levels, both physically and mentally, Erin embraced the challenges that came with mastering a new discipline. Her unwavering commitment to self-improvement propelled her forward, driving her to push beyond her limits and strive for greatness in every stride.
In addition to her athletic pursuits, Erin’s academic endeavors stand as a testament to her multifaceted talents and relentless work ethic. Graduating cum laude from the University of Florida Honors Program with a Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Science & Engineering in 2015, Erin lauds the harmony between academic excellence and athletic prowess. Further solidifying her academic credentials, Erin earned an Associate of Science degree in Computer Science from Salt Lake Community College in 2020, with ongoing studies towards an additional degree in Exercise Science/Kinesiology.
Erin’s meteoric rise in the world of speed skating culminated in her historic victory at the World Cup event in Tomaszow Mazowiecki, Poland, where she clinched first place in the women’s 500m race. This landmark achievement not only solidified her status as a formidable competitor but also etched her name in the annals of sports history as the first Black woman to claim victory in a World Cup event. Erin’s groundbreaking accomplishment serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes worldwide, transcending boundaries and shattering stereotypes in the pursuit of athletic excellence.
Currently residing in Salt Lake City, Utah, Erin continues to hone her skills and refine her craft in preparation for future Olympic Games. As a proud member of Team USA/U.S. National Team across inline skating, roller derby, and long track speed skating, Erin remains a beacon of inspiration and a symbol of resilience in the realm of sports.
